Curamericas is a nonprofit that partners with underserved communities to make measurable and sustainable improvements in their health and well-being by funding healthcare facilities around the world. We partnered with Curamericas to fund solar for the Iranda Healthcare Clinic in Kisii, Kenya. This 9.9 kW rooftop solar system provides 24 x 7 clean energy for the community clinic, maternity wing and refrigeration for vaccines and other medicines.

>"Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will have a profound impact on our ability to deliver quality healthcare services especially on maternal and child health. With uninterrupted power supply, we can enhance patient care, improve medical equipment functionality and maintain essential services even during emergencies."

— Dr. Mutonga Kelvin Gitagia, Iranda SCRH

As mentioned in the milestone, the Iranda clinic is one of three clinics which aims to benefit the 35,960 people in Kisii County, each managed by Curamericas with the intent to eventually transition to a fully owned and managed community resource. In addition to serving as a community health resource and maternity ward, the clinic is responsible for the refrigeration of vaccines and medicines which has been a struggle due to the reality of an unreliable grid connection with frequent outages.

We are proud that with the completion of this project, The Solar Foundation's impact has expanded into a new category, Healthcare Clinic, as well as a new country, Kenya, and that the women in this rural, low-income community will now be able to trust that they will give birth in a lighted facility even in the middle of the night.

"Yesterday was the first day without power in Iranda, and the facility was full of light. The staff and community were so happy!"
