Care for the Needy Charity seeks to provide education, love, hope and care for the orphaned and abandoned children of Uganda. There are over 30 million people living in Uganda. More than 5 million are orphaned children. AIDS has wiped out an entire generation of parents; forcing thousands of children never receive an education, Parental Love and Care. No education. No job, No HOPE. The organization currently supports over 50 children aged between 3 to 15 years old and works to ensure all their basic needs are met and each of them is enrolled in either a local village school, boarding school, up to university.

Jon Ruth worked with this NGO to provide solar power for their operations and a solar-powered water pump prior to the official formation of The Solar Foundation. In October 2023, The Solar Foundation partnered with Care for the Needy to fund solar-powered lighting for increased safety and security outside of their building as shown in the photo below:

With the new solar-powered lights, the children at Care for the Needy are no longer scared to go outside or play at night.

In September 2024, The Solar Foundation partnered with Care for the Needy Charity to provide a second rooftop solar system for their new building. Care for the Needy is an NGO that provides education, love, hope and care for 250 orphaned and abandoned children of Uganda. The new system includes solar panels and storage as well as perimeter lighting for increased safety and security for the students.
